At Refuge, we believe that every Christian is on a mission with Christ. The Great Commission in Matt 28:18-20 calls all believers to join Jesus’ call to make disciples of all nations. Not every Christian is called to go to on mission to Guatemala, but we should take Jesus’ commission to heart. Instead of asking why should you go on a mission trip, the better question to ask is, “How can I join in Jesus’ mission?” 

Sixteen years ago, Refuge began taking short-term mission trips. This led to a partnership with Shalom Baptist Church to plant churches, make disciples and expand God’s Kingdom in Guatemala. 

Our next trip is July 4-11, 2026. 

  • This trip is for all ages. Some go as individuals, and other families serve together.
  • Spanish is not a requirement, but helpful. Those with bilingual abilities a strongly encouraged to come.
  • Participants must be in good standing with Refuge. We welcome friends and co-workers to join us!
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent or adult who will take responsibility in case of an emergency.

What is the cost?

  • The estimated price for this trip is $1,400. This covers flights, lodging, transportation, most meals, and insurance. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due by January 25, 2026. The rest of the balance is due by June 14, 2026.
  • You must have a valid passport or passport application completed by Jan 25, 2026.

What will we do?

Over the years, we have had a variety of projects like retreats for kids and teens, discipleship programs, food distribution, music/worship training, and more. We can use a variety of skills on this team including teaching, crafts, recreation, prayer, music and more. Regardless of your gifts and experiences, you will be amazed at how God can use you! There will be a minimum of 3 training/orientation meetings before we travel. We will share more details at our commitment meeting on January 25, 2026.
